Deep brick red in appearance, our 2017 Tempranillo (70%) Cabernet Sauvignon (19%) Grenache (11%) is full of red currant and liquorice aromas complimented by a touch of sweet vanilla and a fragrant hint of musk. The palate is medium bodied with crunchy red fruits and satsuma plums and, true to its majority component, expresses the classic brick dust and earthy structure of Tempranillo, leading to a long and satisfying finish.
The fruit was hand-picked from our Frankland River vineyard in separate lots as flavour and tannin maturity were optimum. Each lot was sorted by hand and destemmed into small open top fermenters to maximise the percentage of whole berries. We utilised wild fermentation to build structure and texture, as well as highlight the distinctive personalities of the fruit from each parcel. The wines spent up to two weeks on skins prior to pressing directly to fine grained large format French oak (15% new). The individual lots were blended and bottled after 14 months in barrel.
