Eisenstone Stockwell Barossa Valley Shiraz SR805 2018
Awarded 96 points and "Best of the Best" wines in James Halliday Wine Companion 2021.
This is the first release from the Stockwell region of the Barossa Valley. The grapes were sourced from close to the township in the north east part of the Barossa Valley. The soils are continuation of the red ironstone soils that sweep across the west and north of the valley.
The wine has a deep rich red colour and lashings of berry fruit flavours. The use of stylish French barrels adds to the complexity and length of the wine.
Only 800 bottles, each individually numbered.
"Matured in French oak (30% new) for 20 months, 133 cases made. It's full-bodied, flush with black fruits and in normal Barossa Valley style.
James Halliday, Hallidays Wine Companion, 96/100
"Inky and dark, brooding and chewy, deeply flavoured and concentrated with dried fruits, dried cherry, raisin and choc-mocha characters in cahoots. It sticks to the palate, ripples with dusty, woody tannins, draws out long and leaves a volley of tongue-seeking-moisture movement going on. Liquorice, salt bush, light saltiness chiming in. Boot polish, boot, straps and all. Very dark, dense thing this is, a black hole of Barossa shiraz, and I can see the drinkers slapping the table with their meaty palms with encouragement. Does it pretty well."
