A blend of 50 percent Merlot, 45 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 5 percent Petit Verdot. Years of study of the land and the vines have allowed Giampaolo Motta to identify the best Terroir to produce Giorgio Primo, the winery’s flagship wine. The grapes are hand-picked in small boxes and carefully inspected at the sorting table. The grapes are fermented and aged separately in 50 percent new French barriques for 16 months. After final selection and blending, the wine is bottled without fining or filtration.

Like the Carla 6, the 2016 Giorgio Primo shows an inky dark color, almost totally black, with penetrating fruit and long waves of rich fruit flavor throughout. George the First casts mesmerizing spells of spice, tar and smoke. This is a blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. This is another outstanding effort from Fattoria La Massa and its eccentric but visionary founder, Giampaolo Motta. Some 16,000 bottles, magnums, double magnums and other large formats were created.”

A rush of blackberry jam, graphite, lavender, spice and menthol build as the 2016 shows off its potent, beautifully layered personality. Even with all of its fruit intensity, the 2016 retains terrific energy, tension and drive. All of the elements come together in a statuesque, arrestingly beautiful Giorgio Primo. The 2016 spent 16 months in French oak, 50% new. It is an absolutely unforgettable wine from La Massa and proprietor Giampaolo Motta and his team."
