In the mid-1970's, Nicolaus "Nicky" Hahn and his wife, Gaby, bought two ranches-turned-vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands, in the renowned Monterey County appellation on California's Central Coast. They produced their first wines in 1980. As they mark their 30th anniversary, the Hahns now own about 1,000 acres in Monterey County, with half in the Santa Lucia Highlands. It was their founder Nicky Hahn who suggested that the Santa Lucia Highlands (SLH) be deemed a unique winegrowing district. In 1991, the federal government approved the Highlands as an official American Viticultural Area (AVA). Today, they produce their Hahn SLH Pinot Noir entirely on their estate in this breathtakingly beautiful region of Monterey.
They also love Zinfandel, and realized the beautiful 40 year old vines from the Bruella Vineyard in Lodi were the best place to source.
