Palate Profile

Awarded 2015 'Winery of The Year' by James Halliday

Like the fabled character, the Beast is big and bold, yet has a beautiful soft side...  Selected from a single block high on the hill, where the soils are shallow and the sunlight is even, you can expect the Beast to exhibit great concentration of flavour and richness, with soft grippy tannins.

This complex wine combines aromatics of dark blueberry and blackberry with secondary aromas of choc mint, spice, nutmeg and creamy vanillin. The front and sides of the palate are lined with soft grippy tannins that lead to a mid-palate filled with flavours of dark fruits, cigar box, cedar, black olives and dark chocolate. Persistent tannins fill the back palate and combine with perfectly balanced fruit and oak layers providing incredible length.

Critic Awards

A purple-splashed beast of a wine with the estate's characteristic plush black and dark berry fruits. Abundant spice and hints of cedar, vanilla bean, licorice, dark chocolate, tobacco pouch, pressed flowers and roasting meats. Plush and opulent with super-compact sandy tannins and all the structure to age well, should you be able to keep your mitts off it.

Aromas of wood-laced black fruit, ground spice and orange peel. Full-bodied with fine, slightly chewy tannins. The nose continues onto the palate with a bevy of black fruit and woody spice. Very good intensity and balance but needs time to come together. Best after 2025.

Very deep, dense, brooding but also bright red-purple colour; inky aromas of black fruits, licorice, espresso coffee, mocha, dark chocolate and tar. A lot of oak is showing on the nose. Massive tannins and oak and superripe flavour, which needs more time but will likely all come together well with patient cellaring. A real body-slammer.
