Profile

This Coonawarra Merlot is recognised as a benchmark for both the variety and the region. This is a flavoursome Merlot with full flavours of ripe plums and round, long tannins that provide persistence and length. It retains elegance and finesse.

James Halliday rates this as "one of the most consistent merlots around". A consistent recipient of top wine show awards and glowing reviews, this delicious Coonawarra merlot has classic structure, displaying intense blackberry, cherry and mulberry fruit flavours with spice and fine, ripe tannins. Superb balance and length. An excellent match with lamb or pork. Will cellar gracefully for up to a decade.

ABOUT THE WINEMAKER

This is a “distinguished estate with a proud history which has long enjoyed the benefit of old vineyards, but the arrival of winemaker Paul Gordon has allowed the full potential of those vineyards to be realised” (James Halliday).

The Coonawarra vineyards of this winemaker are planted on Terra Rossa soils rich in the clay content that is ideal for growing premium Merlot. This is an estate grown wine sourced from vines planted from 1982 to 1999. The producer has developed a reputation of being among the best producers of Merlot in Australia.

ABOUT KEMENY'S HIDDEN LABEL

Kemeny's Hidden Label range is a unique concept where we sell the exact same commercial wine under our Hidden Label range.  The only difference is we sell these for around half the price they normally sell for under their own label.  Also, for some added fun, we have hidden the name of the winemaker on the front label to give you a clue of what the actual wine really is!

HINT: (you can always google the wine review as well).

Critic Awards

Deep and bright red-purple colour, with a bouquet of humus and tobacco, a hint of green-olive, the palate full of sweet, ripe and quite luscious fruit, beautifully framed by fine tannins and impeccably balanced. Long carry; high cellaring potential. A cracking merlot and great value for money.
