Palate Profile

From acclaimed winemakers David Hohnen and Murray McHenry, the men behind Cloudy Bay and Cape Mentelle.

"Halliday Wine Companion - Australian Winery of the Year 2022 & 2023"

Complex and very satisfying, this is a charming Southern Margaret River Chardonnay.

On the nose delicate notes of jasmine, Ginger spice and nectarine leap from the glass, complemented by complex barrel ferment elements of cashews and struck match. The palate is delicate, medium bodied and refreshing with a mealy texture and salty acidity. A true reflection of place and season, this Chardonnay pays homage to our farming and winemaking philosophy.

Critic Awards

Pale straw, bright and really youthful in the glass. Fragrant, pretty and lifted aromas of lemon pith, bath salts, citrus blossom and wet slate. Fine, delicate and pin-point on the palate, mouth-wateringly citrusy, juicy, mineral, pithy with lip smacking crunchy acidity. This is a class act and has a long life ahead of it

This is a blend of three vineyards – Burnside, Calgardup Brook and Hazel’s. Crisp with a saline minerality. There are faint hints of butterscotch and meal merging in there too. Then the palate is so beautifully controlled with its linear structure and fine savouriness on the finish. Excellent wine.

This has aromas of white apricots, grapefruit, saltines and nutmeg. Fresh and elegant with a medium body and bright acidity. Refreshing sea breeze character to the fresh fruit and biscuit elements.

Medium pale colour. Flinty, chalky, white peach, white apricot aromas. Well concentrated white peach, lemon curd flavours, fine loose-knit chalky / grippy textures, some yeasty complexity and fresh long tangy consistency.

The 2021 Laterite Hills Chardonnay, made purely from the Gin Gin clone, is a superb introduction to the McHenry Hohnen style. Bright fruit forward & pristine, it opens up with impressive melon, grapefruit and lemon pith fruits with oak couched in behind. It’s then deliciously supple, with crisp acidity and an attractive hint of gunflint finish.
