McHenry Hohnen Rocky Road Margaret River Shiraz 2014
Crafted from grapes grown on the family vineyards which exemplifies the McHenry Hohnen approach to grape growing. The result is a wine deriving its primary character from the grape which truly reflects its Margaret River origins. A delicious dry wine displaying fruit intensity, good palate weight and silky tannins - an absolute humdinger of a Shiraz.
A bright bouquet of rich and ripe red fruits leaps from the glass. Raspberry confection and ripe Satsuma plums at first, with nuances of cola nut, black cherries and dusty cacao underneath. A soft and fruit forward palate abounds with supple “Cherry Ripe” fruits, red strap liquorice and subtle sweet spice flavours. Silky tannins provide a velvety structure for a memorable marriage of flavours.
McHenry Hohnen’s winemaking ambitions reflect more than 30 years' of biological farming, grape growing and winemaking in Margaret River.
Each wine is created to be a uniquely individual character; expressive of variety, season and growing site.
We specialise in showcasing Single Vineyard character through unadulterated, minimal intervention handling.Where appropriate, varieties are blended but only when the outcome is a wine that will be greater than the sum of its parts.
Winemaking follows simple, traditional principles where soil health and vine vitality are king in the vineyard and minimal handling in the winery with minimum additives make the genuine characters of the wine sing.
Varietal characters are pre-eminent and complemented by the aromas, flavours and textures that evolve during the maturing of the wine.
These are derived from indigenous yeast, malolactic bacteria, yeast autolysis and grape solids.
The most simple and forgotten approach; allow the grapes to become wines.
