"In an adolescent funk (this was stunning upon release), the 2012 Les Amis is in between the flush of youth and coming out on the other side into adult glory. Smoke and vanilla notes accent raspberry fruit, but the aromatics are somewhat dampened compared to other vintages. It's still glorious, with ample weight and richness, and a long, plush finish. This was the only one of the Les Amis I found that showed its alcohol at all, and then only as slight warmth."

"Deep red/purple, excellent colour. The bouquet is rich and ripe with cola notes among the dark berries and aniseed, with a strong overlay of oak. The beginnings of mocha, too. It's rich and full in the mouth, surprisingly soft and rounded, with a fleshy texture and appealing density - without any heaviness. Amazingly, you don't feel the 16% alcohol. The oak is not apparent in the mouth either and indeed, the oak here is less obtrusive than I usually find in this wine. Very good indeed. (18 months in all-new French oak)"
