Ulithorne McLaren Vale Unicus Shiraz 2017
Lifted blackberry, cedar and dark spices with hints of chocolate and aniseed. Rich, ripe palate showing abundant dark fruit and spices supported by smoky oak. Fine, chalky tannins and great length.
Gently fermented in small opens with hand plunging. Matured in new and older French Oak hogsheads for 15 months before blending
"Matured in new and old French oak for 15 months. It's a svelte shiraz. It's rich with sweet fruit, mostly in the plum and asphalt spectrum, though smoky oak, vanilla and clove characters play subtle-but-important roles. There isn't a lot of tannin to speak of but there's enough; it's simply melted into the fruit. It's made in a warmer style and stressed herb characters are apparent but all indications are that it will mature well." Campbell Mattinson, Hallidays Wine Review. 93/100
