Profile
The Clos Henri Single Vineyard Otira Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is an exceptional expression of Marlborough terroir from the Bourgeois family, famed for their Sancerre pedigree in France. This wine showcases the more refined and structured side of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc—elegant, mineral-driven, and deeply expressive. Grown on the Otira block's young riverbed soils, it channels tension and finesse, with a crystalline core of citrus, white stone fruit, and flinty complexity. Unlike the more overtly tropical styles Marlborough is known for, this vintage leans into restraint, with chalky texture, fine acidity, and a lingering, savoury finish.
Critics have been quick to praise the 2023 vintage. Rebecca Gibb MW (Vinous) awarded it 94 points, describing it as "a Sauvignon Blanc of purity and poise," highlighting its "mineral backbone and saline vibrancy" that makes it a standout among New Zealand whites. James Suckling called it “a wine of precision and class,” while Cameron Douglas MS praised its “delicately powerful palate and length,” scoring it 95 points and noting its subtle complexity and ageing potential.
This is a Sauvignon Blanc for those who seek sophistication over exuberance—ideal for pairing with shellfish, fresh goat’s cheese, or simply enjoying on its own as it unfurls in the glass. A wine that speaks of place and winemaking pedigree, the 2023 Otira is a benchmark for modern Marlborough elegance.
