Profile
The 2023 Conterno Fantino Barbera d'Alba DOC "Vignota" is a beautifully expressive red from one of Piedmont’s most respected organic producers. Made entirely from Barbera grapes and grown sustainably on hillside vineyards in Monforte d'Alba, this wine captures the vibrant energy of the vintage while staying true to the estate’s refined, terroir-driven style.
In the glass, the wine shows a brilliant ruby-purple colour, offering an enticing bouquet of sour cherries, fresh raspberries, violets, and subtle hints of spice and cedar. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with lively acidity and a smooth, polished texture. Notes of blackberry, dark cherry and baking spices unfold with elegance, leading to a clean, food-friendly finish. The balance between fruit brightness and savoury depth makes this a standout Barbera that’s both approachable now and capable of aging gracefully over the next 3–5 years.
Critics have praised the 2023 vintage for its precision and vibrancy. Jeb Dunnuck awarded it 91 points, highlighting its clarity of fruit, depth, and finesse. On Vivino, wine lovers consistently commend its freshness, fine structure and value for money, with tasting notes frequently referencing red berries, vanilla, and a touch of chocolate.
This wine is ideal with a wide variety of dishes—think rich pastas, game birds like duck or goose, or even a simple charcuterie board. Its natural acidity also makes it a perfect companion for hard cheeses or tomato-based sauces.
