95 Points – Halliday Wine Companion
94 Points – James Suckling
93 Points – The Wine Front
One of the Yarra Valley’s benchmark Chardonnays, the 2024 Giant Steps Yarra Valley Chardonnay combines impressive concentration with the freshness and precision that have become hallmarks of Giant Steps.
There’s a beautiful mix of white peach, nectarine and nashi pear, layered with lemon, grapefruit and delicate floral notes. The palate is finely textured and energetic, with subtle creaminess balanced by bright acidity, a savoury edge and a long, mineral-driven finish.
The critics were equally impressed. Halliday Wine Companion awarded it 95 points, highlighting its stone fruit, pink grapefruit and citrus character along with its excellent balance. James Suckling scored it 94 points, noting lemon pith, grapefruit, chalk and apple blossom with a focused palate and fine acidity. Campbell Mattinson of The Wine Front gave it 93 points, finding stone fruit, lemon sherbet, nashi pear and cream with a lively, briny grapefruit finish.
This is modern Yarra Valley Chardonnay at its best — elegant and sophisticated, yet already beautifully approachable. A terrific match with seafood, roast chicken, grilled fish or creamy pasta, and a wine that should continue to develop nicely in bottle.
