Profile

We think this is probably the best The Holy Trinity we have made. Some years the stars align and 2018 was one of those years’, Craig Stansborough, Chief Winemaker.

A portion of the wine was fermented in traditional old concrete fermenters with the cap held down by header boards – similar to the Southern Rhone technique – allowing heavy extraction of colour and tannin, particularly from the Grenache.

The wine is a brilliant and vibrant ruby red colour. A playful combination of candied apple, raspberry jubes, frangipane and lemon curd. In the background you see notes of cinnamon and clove.

The palate is medium to full bodied, fresh and vibrant with enough tannin to shape the wine. Acidity carries the wine through to a clean, slightly mineral and lengthy finish. Lovely hints of fresh raspberries and cinnamon linger on the palate.

Critic awards

Near-equal parts grenach/shiraz/mourvèdre, with a tiny dash of cabernet. Matured 16 months in seasoned puncheons and hogsheads. This aptly named Barossa GSM has ascended magnificently in recent vintages, attaining new heights of spice, detail and intrigue. Exotic and fragrant, it presumably enjoys all the lift and jubilance of whole-bunch inclusion, stimulating crunchy red berry fruits and rhubarb. A long finish embodies poise and life, riding rails of firm, fine tannins and vibrant acid line. A rare GSM for the cellar.

This longstanding brand is back in the country with one of its best-known labels. A classic G-S-M blend, it's an earthy, broody wine. Subtle cherry, black-currant and licorice notes are wound in dusty red soil, bay leaf and ground pepper. Tannins are fine, spicy and granular in texture. There's freshness and finesse amid the muscularity. This is traditional Barossa without the overt, luscious fruit. Drink now with protein at hand or cellar until 2031.

An instant sense of depth on the nose with bright red berries and florals, as well as some earthy notes. The palate is glossy and even. The vintage really sings here. Raspberries and red plums. Ripe and concentrated. All matured in larger-format, seasoned oak. Drink over the next ten years.
