60+ yo vines with around 18 months in a combination of new and older French and American oak. A wine with undoubted richness and power, but there's a controlled, almost taut feel about it as well. There's plenty of ripe fruit and oak, but there's also a minerally quality running through it with firm, but not overwhelming, tannin keeping a tight rein.

Sourced from old vines in the southern Barossa Valley, this offers some deep, richly spicy aromas with ripe red plums, blackberries, roasted coffee and chocolate. The palate has tarry accents to the bold, blackberry flavors. Long, dense and intense palate. Very layered. Lots of dark plums and berries. Impressive, full-bodied and so youthful.

This is a powerful, dense and still very young wine despite a bit of bottle age. After some time in the glass, it reveals concentrated red and black berry fruit, dried violet, mint, dusty, scrubby Aussie bush notes and a prominent line of polished mocha oak. The muscular tannins are dominant on the palate, tightly cinching the silky fruit. The acidity is well pitched and the finish long. Give this several more years in the bottle. Christina Pickard

Deep, dense, dark colour. The bouquet is very oaky, with aromas of coconut, vanilla and dark chocolate, with fumy high-notes from elevated alcohol. The wine is chewy and grippy, very firm and the tannins are accentuated by the high alcohol. A whopper, very concentrated but a little clumsy, with no pretence to elegance.
