Profile

Magnificent colour featuring a saturated inky black core with a very deep dark red black hue. Pronounced ripe blackcurrant, liquorice and mulberry aromas are married to dusty vanillin cedar, bay leaf, violet and subtle tobacco notes. Possessing a refined opulence, the mid weighted palate shows terrific power and depth with rich blackcurrant, subtle liquorice and ripe mulberry fruits engulfing the mouth. Vanillin cedar, light earth, spicy tobacco and infusions of bay leaf lie underneath. Beautifully integrated yet structured tannins turning plush and velvety through the long alluring finish.

ABOUT THE WINEMAKER

This winemaker was founded in 2004 with a vision to create beautifully balanced, elegant wines with a sense of place. Wines that are delicious on the palate and also reflect the soil, the climate and lifestyle of the Adelaide Hills. Since then, the winemaker has won over 50 Trophies and 400 Gold Medals.

Young, deep and dark colour in the glass. Lifted aromas of dried herbs, blackberry, dark cherry, tobacco, menthol and cedar—pretty complex stuff happening here. The palate is powerful: all blackberry, blackcurrant and mulberry intertwined with a brambly leafiness, firm granular tannins and bright acidty. This is concentrated and flavoursome, with cassis and blackberry the main chords. The oak is certainly present, and contributes a resinous, licorice character through the finish. It also shapes the tannins and the rest of the troupe, guiding it all to the finish. The core is pure cassis. Very good. This is very generous and approachable, now.

Bright and lifted bramble, blackberry, chocolate and liquorice. All the good things. The strength of this wine lies in the concentration of fruit – black and red berries – which is impressive and grabs your tastebuds attention in league with a volley of dark spice, mint, cedar and leafy herbal notes. Tannins are round and approachable and up to the job. Enjoyable drinking now and in the medium term.
