Profile
The 2021 Lake Chalice 'The Falcon' Pinot Noir from Marlborough, New Zealand, is a vibrant and expressive wine that showcases the region's cool-climate elegance. Crafted from fruit harvested in the Wairau Valley, this Pinot Noir underwent careful fermentation and aging to highlight its varietal character. The wine presents a bouquet of ripe dark cherry and blackcurrant, interwoven with notes of nuts and subtle lees complexity. On the palate, it offers a youthful and refreshing profile, with core flavors reflecting the nose, supported by vibrant acidity and fine tannins that provide structure and mouthfeel. This wine is well-made and ready for enjoyment from 2023 through 2028+.
The 2021 vintage received a 92-point rating from Master Sommelier Cameron Douglas, who praised its varietal purity and vibrant structure. Additionally, it was awarded a Silver Medal at the 2022 New Zealand International Wine Show, underscoring its quality and appeal. With an alcohol content of 13%, this Pinot Noir is both approachable now and possesses the structure for graceful aging over the next 5–7 years. Its versatility makes it an excellent companion to a variety of dishes, including duck, mushroom risotto, or grilled salmon. The 2021 Lake Chalice 'The Falcon' Pinot Noir exemplifies the finesse and depth that Marlborough is renowned for, making it a worthy addition to any wine enthusiast's collection.
