Profile

An abundance of dark cherries, blueberries, mulberries and currants surround the nose with heightened floral notes of violets and lavender. Beneath there lies subtle spice notes of black cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg and star anise. Gentle layering of cedar, black pepper, and chalk is threaded within.

An energetic palate with bright and fresh acidity is the backbone weaving within concentrated boysenberries, cherries and currants. There is dimension and capacity through the mid, leading to structural silky tannins that linger to a long finish.

Critic awards

In many ways a breakthrough wine for Leeuwin and a clear marker of where they have been heading with this variety. As with the Siblings a small amount of malbec has been added along with the spicy and textural impact from a little viognier. It’s so delightfully poised and presented with its pretty and perfumed aromas opening with a plummy mulberry blue fruit character emerging immediately. It’s soft and supple with fine fruit characters supported with fine chalky tannins. Has a silky texture with an ever so subtle grainy feel adding to its appeal. Looking very smart.

Shiraz dominant, there is a dollop of both Viognier and Malbec (3% of each), in this stunning Margaret River Shiraz. 20% whole bunch and a total of eighteen months maturation in various formats of French oak. Deep magenta hue. Quite the savoury style, we have notes of licorice, animal skins, dry herbs, blackcurrants, cloves and a hint of graphite. Beautifully structured, this is seamless and seductive. There is a line of fine acidity, all leading to quite a complex style. Such exemplary balance here with excellent length. Enjoy over the next ten to fifteen years. A superb Margaret River Shiraz. The best in the region?

The 2022 Art Series Shiraz is excellent. It is lush and persistent, with a sapid mid-palate and layers of spice and textural complexity. Very good. It remains bloody and mineral, characterized by savory tannins, pink peppercorns, nori, gravel and dried herbs, with pomegranate molasses, redcurrant and a hint of goji berry to boot. The tannins and the fruit are as one: the wine isn't encased by tannin, as so many are, rather, it IS tannin, in that the tannin exudes from its very core, like rays of sunshine. Good! Sealed under screw cap.

Very aromatic, cracked pepper, black olive, blue and red fruit, five spice. There's a lot of flesh to this wine, even though it's medium-bodied, with good finish. Very good.

— 94 points, The Wine Front

Aromas of pitted cherries, grilled herbs, overturned earth and whole nutmeg. Medium- to full-bodied with structured, sturdy tannins. Fresh acidity lifts up the savory fruit and sweet spice. Very good intensity and depth here. A bit of chew at the finish. Best after 2023. Screw cap.
