Profile

The 2020 Louis Jadot Santenay Clos de Malte is a distinguished Pinot Noir from Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, specifically from the Santenay appellation. This wine is produced from the "Clos de Malte," a 7-hectare monopole vineyard wholly owned by Louis Jadot, situated on the climat "Sous la Fée" at the foot of the Montagne des Trois Croix. The vineyard's limestone and clay soils contribute to the wine's structure and depth. The 2020 vintage benefited from favorable growing conditions, resulting in a wine that is both approachable in its youth and capable of graceful aging.

Critically acclaimed, the 2020 vintage received positive reviews from wine experts. William Kelley of Wine Advocate noted that the wine offers "aromas of sweet red berries, cloves and vanilla pod," followed by a "medium to full-bodied, fleshy palate framed by lively acids and powdery tannins," describing it as "a fine effort." Additionally, Burgundy Report praised the wine for its directness and lovely freshness, calling it "vibrant, delicious" with a "lovely structure/shape."

On the palate, the wine exhibits a vibrant profile with notes of red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, complemented by subtle earthy undertones and a hint of spice. The wine's medium body, balanced acidity, and fine tannins make it an excellent companion to dishes like roasted poultry, duck breast, and lamb. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, it is both approachable now and possesses the structure for graceful aging over the next 5–7 years. The 2020 Louis Jadot Santenay Clos de Malte exemplifies the finesse and depth that Burgundy is renowned for, making it a worthy addition to any wine enthusiast's collection.

Critic awards

Clean and even purple, with a fine full pinot nose, ripe but with reserve. Not especially full bodied until right at the finish, fine tannins and very long finish on a surprising acidity.

— 91 points, Inside Burgundy

A beefy red highlighted by a mix of black cherry, blackberry, smoke, earth and iron aromas and flavors. Shows grainy tannins that ply the rich texture, leaving a compact finish. Features fine length.
