Profile
A bold, full-bodied Shiraz with real McLaren Vale character, the 2022 Jester impresses with its generosity, structure and balance. It opens with intense aromas of blackberry, plum and dark chocolate, followed by layers of licorice, clove, dried herbs and subtle vanilla-oak spice. The palate is rich and mouth-filling, supported by fine tannins and fresh acidity that carry through to a long, smooth finish.
Crafted from a relatively cool vintage, the wine strikes a fine balance between power and finesse. It’s approachable now but will reward cellaring over the next 5–8 years.
★ Winepilot – 92 Points
"This is a big-shouldered red but, crucially, it’s neatly balanced and controlled. There’s no sense of it throwing its weight around. Rather, it makes the most of that weight. Black fruits – dark cherry and blackberry – sit at the core with earthy tones, savoury oak and spice in the form of clove and star anise. The acidity is bright and nicely placed. Tannins are present but well-mannered. Chocolate and coffee bean notes linger. A well-made wine, long and complex with delicious drinking appeal."

★ Huon Hooke – 90 Points
"Earthy shiraz with coconut/vanilla oak inflections and deeper blackberry, with a trace of chocolate. Hints of clove and underbrush. It's full-bodied, bold and brash, with assertive tannins and a little astringency. A robust and powerful style with good cellaring potential."
