    “Savitar” is a mythical dragon-like monster, and this wine is so named because of the impression Frank Mitolo and Ben Glaetzer had upon tasting one particular lot in the Willunga vineyard. They were so blown away they decided to make a Shiraz from just the small lot, and Savitar was created.

    Critic awards

    Inky colour and flavour. Coconut oak nestles into blackberried fruit, the result intense in a cuddly way. That there is the main appeal, but it’s not a one trick pony: smoky, almost woody, tones play along the background, aided by sweet roasted nut characters. Upper echelon without question.

    Deep red colour with a tint of purple. The aromas are plummy, walnutty, slightly earthy, with a pleasant fruit and oak balance. The wine is focused and firm, intense and deep, a tad nervy, with balance and digestibility. Good drinking; deep, soft, forward and lingering.
