Profile
The Mitolo 'Of The Wind' Chardonnay 2023 is a refined expression of Adelaide Hills' cool-climate terroir, crafted from hand-harvested fruit sourced from the Longview Block 8 Vineyard in Macclesfield. This site benefits from southerly breezes off Lake Alexandrina, contributing to the wine's vibrant acidity and fruit purity.
In the glass, it presents a pale straw hue with green tinges. The bouquet offers aromas of white peach, nectarine, honeysuckle, and buttered popcorn, complemented by notes of sliced pineapple, Meyer lemon, crème brûlée toffee, apple friand, nutmeg, cinnamon, elderflower, and fennel seed.
The palate is zesty yet supple, showcasing flavors of white peach, nectarine, fresh-cut pineapple, gooseberry, and golden delicious apple. Elements of crème fraîche and subtle dry spices add complexity, while finely balanced acidity carries the wine through to a long, mineral finish.
Critically acclaimed, this vintage received a 94-point rating from Shanteh Wale of Winepilot, who noted, "Sliced pineapple, white peach and Meyer lemon. Crème brûlée toffee, apple friand, nutmeg and cinnamon. Elderflower and fennel seed. The palate shows both crunchy acidity and a honeysuckle sweetness, lemon curd and glacé pineapple finish. Oak adds complexity without overpowering. A touch of grapefruit pith and peach tea bitterness. It’s a well-worked wine that encompasses both ripe fruit, power and presence."
With an alcohol content of 12.5%, the 2023 'Of The Wind' Chardonnay is both approachable now and has the potential to age gracefully over the next 3–6 years. It pairs beautifully with dishes like ham and cheese toasties, roasted poultry, or creamy pasta, making it a versatile choice for various occasions.
This wine exemplifies the elegance and finesse characteristic of top-tier Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, making it a worthy addition to any wine enthusiast's collection.
