Profile
The Mitolo Marsican Shiraz 2019 is the pinnacle of Mitolo's Shiraz offerings, meticulously crafted from the finest barrels sourced from three distinct vineyard sites in McLaren Vale. These vineyards, located just kilometers from the cooling breezes of the Gulf St Vincent, are the same esteemed sites that produce Mitolo's single vineyard Shiraz wines: Savitar, G.A.M., and Angela. The Marsican is a tribute to Frank Mitolo’s father, Bruno, and is named after the rare Marsican bear native to the Abruzzo region of Italy, symbolizing strength and gentleness.
Presented in an elegant timber gift box, each bottle is hand-wrapped, reflecting the wine's exceptional quality and the family's dedication to craftsmanship.
The 2019 vintage showcases a deep crimson hue, offering intense aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, and dark chocolate, complemented by notes of vanilla and marzipan. On the palate, it delivers concentrated flavors of blackberry, dark chocolate, and marzipan, with fine chocolaty textures, superb mid-palate volume, and attractive minerally fresh acidity. The finish is firm with bittersweet liquorice notes, demonstrating excellent density and balance.

97 Points – Andrew Caillard MW, The Vintage Journal
"Deep crimson. Intense blackberry, dark cherry, dark chocolate aromas with vanilla, marzipan notes. Well-concentrated blackberry dark chocolate marzipan flavours, fine chocolaty textures, superb mid-palate volume and attractive minerally fresh acidity. Finishes firm with bittersweet/liquorice notes. Very good density and torque with alcohol in balance and should last the distance." -
96 Points – Erin Larkin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate
"The 2019 Marsican Shiraz is concentrated and intense. Brilliant fruit depth reveals a wide splay of raspberry freshness on the mid-palate through finish, while the tannins wrap around the mouth and induce chew and smack. This is a really pleasurable, brilliant wine. It is ripe and will appeal hugely to those who are attracted to plush tannins and sweet fruit. It is hefty without being overweight. Cool." -
93 Points – Wine Enthusiast
"Firmly in the big, glossy, expensive red-wine category, this certainly doesn't skimp on flavor. There's a sheen of vanilla-mocha oak atop blackberry jam and clove spice. The palate is powerful and tightly gripped by chalky tannins. There's elevated acidity which gives the fruit bite and tartness. Call it a black-tie wine, if overly polished and generic for this reviewer's taste."
With an alcohol content of 14.8%, the 2019 Marsican Shiraz is both approachable now and has the potential to age gracefully over the next two decades. It pairs beautifully with hearty dishes like grilled meats, rich stews, or aged cheeses, making it a versatile choice for various occasions.
