Profile
The 2018 Roagna Barbaresco Pajè is a captivating expression of Nebbiolo from the esteemed Pajè vineyard in Barbaresco, Piedmont. Crafted by Luca Roagna, this wine reflects the estate's commitment to traditional winemaking and the unique terroir of the region.
In the glass, it presents a sparkling, medium-dense ruby-garnet hue. The nose is finely characterized by notes of dried rose petals, strawberry, wild raspberry, and plum. On the palate, it offers finely sweet fruit with great melting, opening with present, savory tannins, and culminating in a full-bodied finish with firm pressure.
Critically acclaimed, the 2018 vintage received a 97-point rating from Falstaff, highlighting its complex and multi-layered profile. Wine Spectator awarded it 95 points, noting its fresh, lively, and linear profile with flavors of strawberries, cherries, hibiscus, iron, and cut hay, leading to a vibrant structure and a long, fruit- and mineral-tinged finish. Vinous rated it 94 points, describing it as a brooding, inward wine with mineral and savory notes dominating, while fruit remains in the background.
With an alcohol content of 14.5%, this Barbaresco is both approachable in its youth and capable of graceful aging, promising to evolve beautifully over the next two decades. It pairs excellently with dishes such as lamb, veal lasagne, mushrooms, and Grana Padano cheese, making it a worthy addition to any cellar.
