Profile
The 2022 Te Mata Alma Pinot Noir is a distinguished expression of Pinot Noir from New Zealand's Hawke's Bay region, crafted by the esteemed Te Mata Estate. This vintage showcases the winery's commitment to producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of their vineyards.
Critically acclaimed, the 2022 vintage received a 95-point rating from Huon Hooke of The Real Review, who described it as "a serious pinot noir that will reward cellaring for several years." Sam Kim awarded it 96 points, noting its "alluring and enticing" character with "sweet berry, olive, thyme and toasted almond characters, beautifully accented by floral overtones." Bob Campbell MW also praised the wine, giving it 91 points and highlighting its "mix of floral and savoury characters including violets, chocolate/mocha, and fresh herb flavours supported by fresh acidity and fine tannins."
On the palate, the wine exhibits a vibrant profile with notes of red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, complemented by subtle earthy undertones and a hint of spice. The wine's medium body, balanced acidity, and fine tannins make it an excellent companion to dishes like roasted poultry, duck breast, and lamb. With an alcohol content of 13%, it is both approachable now and possesses the structure for graceful aging over the next 7–10 years. The 2022 Te Mata Alma Pinot Noir exemplifies the finesse and depth that Hawke's Bay is renowned for, making it a worthy addition to any wine enthusiast's collection.
