Palate Profile

This Torbreck Shiraz cuvée is a skilful blend of fruit from a 40 year old Eden Valley Shiraz vineyard and an 80 year old Barossa Shiraz vineyard – a marriage of elegance and intensity.

The Struie is a wonderfully aromatic and deeply concentrated wine produced from the harmonious combination of both regions, delivering layers of dark chocolate characters and defining structure. Nuances of plum, blackberries, violets and hidden spice characters all further enhance the natural elegance and tension of the fruit quality. The Struie will certainly age tremendously well over the next decade.

Critic Awards

Very deep, bright, bold purple/red colour, with a slightly subdued but spicy aroma which also carries some of the graphite of the Barossa floor. Full-bodied and ample, big and bold, with abundant soft tannins and lovely balance. A big but elegant wine whose texture is finely-grained, not coarse.

A show stopper. Profound, luminescent black purple. A compact, dense singularity of satsuma plum, blackberry and licorice, framed in a confidently hewn shell of fine, mineral tannins and well-executed dark chocolate and coffee-bean oak. Coiled up tight, all it asks for is time to unravel and build on the finish.

A bold Struie with only a small inclusion of Eden Valley material, this has rich, blackberry and tar aromas, as well as a herbal edge. Very fleshy palate with long, fully formed tannins carrying blackberry and toasty oak spice at the finish.

Dried mint, oregano, bay leaf and crushed violets partner with blackberry, blueberry, baked clay and the toasty, chocolatey notes of high end barrels. On the tongue, it's rich and satiny, with a touch of alcohol heat and oak influence but it still shows lovely fruit that's all soft corners.

Always a favourite at our home

You cannot go wrong with the Struie. Decant it a couple of hours at least and watch it unfurl - full bodied, even young, with so much dark fruit and mellow tannin.
