Profile

Chateau La Tour Carnet was ranked as the fourth growth winery in the Médoc classification in 1855. After the winery was acquired by Bernard Magrez in 2000, the quality has greatly improved. Robert Parker called it the most cost-effective among all classified wineries.

Critic awards

For a Haut-Médoc, this has an impressive depth of blackberry and blueberry character, together with a fine vanilla-oak note that beautifully complements the supple and finely nuanced, medium body. I love the crisp and delicately herbal, dry finish.

— 93 points, James Suckling

This is a rich wine, packed with tannins that contrast the fresh acidity and black currant fruit. It's a solid wine that's constructed to age.

— 93 points, Wine Enthusiast

Dark ruby garnet, opaque core, subtle lightening of the edges, dark cherry fruit, some nougat, delicate orange zest. Juicy, fine blackberry fruit, firm tannins, good freshness, chocolaty aftertaste, a bit too woody as usual, mineral aftertaste, takes time.

— 92 points, Falstaff

Generous nose with ripe dark fruit (cassis, plum, cherry), roasted oak, coffee, mild spices and tar. The palate is broad and voluminous with a healthy freshness underneath, ripe but dense tannin and a long chewy finish with attractive dark fruit.

— 92 points, Tasted.com

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 la Tour Carnet has an earthy nose with tobacco and underbrush over a core of warm plums, kirsch and tea. The medium-bodied palate is refreshing, elegant, juicy and soft with a savory finish.

— 91 points, Robert Parker Wine Advocate
