Palate Profile

Described by leading wine critic Robert Parker as "the finest Champagne house virtually no one has ever heard of".

The Giraud house is one of the few houses (Krug is another example) that conduct primary fermentations in oak. Henri Giraud pride themselves on sourcing wood for its barrels from the slow growing, tight grained, high quality trees of the ancient forest of Argonne, lying just 35 miles from the estate.

Critic Awards

An unusually golden colour shimmers in the glass. The nose is immediate with the mellow richness of Red Delicious apple flesh. The palate has a lovely saltiness to counter the rich, Pinot- and ryebread scented richness. There is an intensity and depth that is immense, here is resonance on a bone-dry but rich body. The finish is taut, clean, salty.

A fresh, bright and sleek Champagne with aromas of biscuits, lemon pith, pear skins, apricots and pie crust. Supple bubbles on the fresh, dry palate. Salted-praline notes at the end. 80% pinot noir and 20% chardonnay, plus 50% perpetual reserve, all vinified in old oak barrels from the Argonne forest. Delicious now.

Showing very well, mingling aromas of yellow orchard fruit and peach with nuances of toasted bread, candied peel, white flowers, clear honey and fresh almonds. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it's elegantly vinous, with lively acids and a long, delicately oak-inflected finish.

Esprit Nature is the perfect entry-level Champagne for lovers of vinous and dense Champagne. With notes of orchard fruits, spices and almonds, it offers its full scope in the mouth with a delicious texture. 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, based on 2016 and with 50% reserve wines.

This balanced Champagne has a fine mousse, with a well-knit spine of citrus-laced acidity defining rich notes of plumped cherry, rosehip, biscuit and candied ginger.
