Palate Profile

From acclaimed winemaker David Hohnen, who co-founded Cape Mentelle in Margaret River in 1970 and founder Murray McHenry

"Halliday Wine Companion - Australian Winery of the Year 2022 & 2023"

Rolling Stone represents the pinnacle of their red wine production and is the most authentic expression of Hazel's Vineyard. Biodynamic farming, meticulous vineyard management and the utmost attention to detail in the winery all contribute to a wine that speaks of our land. This wine is crafted from select parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot.

The nose is a display of fragrant violet, black currant and blueberry confection complemented by savoury notes of black olive tapenade, tobacco leaf and dusty dark chocolate. The palate is opulent yet refined, combining tense dark fruits and sweet spice with firm gravelly tannins providing impressive length. Made in very limited quantities, this wine expresses the pure essence of our remarkable southern Margaret River site - Hazel’s Vineyard.

Critic Awards

It sits on the bolder side of medium weight, but it's superbly elegant and superbly persistent. It presents a velvety flow of blackcurrant, dark chocolate, gravel, peppercorn and wood smoke-like flavours and, while the pull of tannin is strong, the flow of fruit will not be halted. Sensational example of a Margaret River cabernet blend.

Deepish red colour with a tint of purple. The is chocolaty and cedary, Bordelais oak-infused complexity, the palate full-bodied and stately, with good density and drying, savoury tannins. A marvellously elegant, complex, multi-dimensional red, cabernet-driven and follows the Bordeaux model closely. A terrific glass of wine now and for many years hence

This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot has rich, earthy style with ripe dark berries and plums on offer, as well as dark spices, graphite and forest wood. The medium-bodied palate has an appealing, elegant feel and red-plum and berry flavours to close.

Very bold, rolling style of Cabernet, almost going into bigger end Napa Valley style, as an aside. It’s dark chocolate, black fruit, nougat and biscuit spices, and some violet and mint. A mass of ripe tannin through deep fruit, ferrous and earthy, juicy acidiy, and a long and thickly tannic finish.”
