Profile

In a short period of time Mitolo has become recognized as one of the finest producers in McLaren Vale and all of Austrlaia. Mitolo is a family owned business, started and led by Frank Mitolo and his vision of harnessing his Italian heritage to create a range of wines of individuality, integrity and utmost quality.

Primarily fruit driven with savoury complexing elements. Blackberry, blackcurrant and dark cherry, coffee grounds, tobacco, roasted nutmeg and a touch of charcuterie. Tannins are plush cored with powdery texture and a youthful structure. Subtle acidity is well balanced and integrated with the elegant weight and style of the wine.

Critic awards

Splendidly fruited and fragrant with blackcurrant, thyme, clove and roasted nut aromas on the nose, it's succulent and supple in the mouth offering fine flow backed by chalky tannins. Structured and harmonious with a sustained robust finish. At its best: now to 2030.

The winemaking at this address has become far more attuned to region, site and style, not to mention contemporary demands for lighter, more vital wines. While this, as with its shiraz brethren, is rich and impactful, there is a welcome freshness. The tannins here, not quite as well shaped. But for the price, savoury and nourishing all the same.

Like its partner, the Shiraz, the Jester Cabernet Sauvignon is a terrific value for current drinking. It's less weighty than the Shiraz, appropriately medium-bodied, with fresh, leafy notes layered over cassis and cherry fruit and ending in a wash of softly dusty tannins.

— 90 points, Robert Parker Wine Advocate

A garnet red, the nose offers notes of smoked meats, warm earth, bay leaves, redcurrants and cigar box characters. This is made in an earthy, even slightly rustic, style, with a mix of red and black fruits. A soft and generous palate with ripe flavours, this is a wine of medium length which will provide pleasure for the next three to four years.
