Profile
The 2017 Nigl 'Privat' Grüner Veltliner Ried Pellingen 1ÖTW is a masterful expression of Austria's Kremstal region, showcasing the depth and elegance achievable with Grüner Veltliner. Sourced from the esteemed Pellingen vineyard in Senftenberg, this wine reflects the meticulous craftsmanship of Weingut Nigl.
In the glass, it presents a luminous golden hue. The nose is greeted with aromatic notes of ripe Comice pear, promising both freshness and fruit. On the palate, it offers an exciting interplay of white pepper and lemon pith, providing structure and texture to the aromatic pear fruit. Both pear and pepper echo long on the slender, zesty body, culminating in a vibrant finish.
Critically acclaimed, the 2017 vintage received a 96-point rating from James Suckling, highlighting its balance and expressive character. Falstaff awarded it 94 points, noting its alluring fragrance of yellow apple, soft savory and tobacco tones, as well as nuances of mango and honeydew melon, pervaded by whiffs of orange zest.
With an alcohol content of 13.5%, this Grüner Veltliner is both refreshing and substantial, making it an excellent companion to dishes like shellfish, crab, and lobster. Its structure and balance suggest it will evolve gracefully over the next several years, making it a worthy addition to any cellar.
