Profile

Ready to drink now, but has an ageing potential of up to 2031. It is fresh and vibrant from the bottle and does not require decanting.

This powerful wine makes its presence known quickly. Aromas of bright citrus and spice continue to be present on the first sip, with a vibrant minerality providing a firm structure. The fruit components are dense and complex with a variety of tropical and exotic fruit notes. The finish is long and pleasant, and would be a wonderful accompaniment to spicier foods such as Thai cuisine or a fresh ceviche.

This private label from Weingut Nigl comes from the best vineyard, Pellingen, in their best area, Senftenberg. These 35 to 45-year-old vines are nestled on steep terraces with a bedrock of mica schist. This enables the winemaker to classify it a First Growth, since it successfully accomplishes the high standard set forth by the Österreichische Traditionsweingüter – the Association of Traditional Austrian Wineries.

Critic awards

Ravishing aromas of stone fruit, pears and citrus suck you into this noble and concentrated grüner veltliner that effortlessly balances enormous ripeness and mineral freshness. Breathtakingly long. Screw cap.

— 97 points, James Suckling

Medium yellow-green, silver glints. Alluring fragrance of yellow apple, soft savoury and tobacco tones, as well as nuances of mango and honeydew melon, pervaded by whiffs of orange zest. Complex, firm, texture, white stone fruit nuances, filigree acidity, peppery touch, tightly woven marked by saline reverberations. Already accessible.

— 94 points, Falstaff

Aromatic notes of ripe Comice pear on the nose promise both freshness and fruit. The palate immediately adds an exciting sense of white pepper and lemon pith to provide structure and texture to the lovely, friendly and aromatic pear fruit. Both pear and pepper echo long on the slender, zesty body.
