Palate Profile

In 1890, the Duke of Aosta visited Pontassieve after learning of a hidden gem in the cellar of the newly established Ruffino, a rising winery known for its Chianti. Impressed, he made Ruffino the royal supplier, and this wine has been a flagship since 1927, bearing its iconic label.

Ruffino Ducale Chianti Classico Riserva is a ruby red color. The bouquet is elegant, with violets, cherries, wild berries and plums. Hints of spices like tobacco, clove and eucalyptus. Riserva Ducale is balanced with delicate tannins. The vibrant acidity, typical of Sangiovese grapes, distinguishes this wine. An enduring finish and a bold structure complete the tasting profile.

Critic Awards

This has a toasty character with hints of cardamom, cloves and crushed walnuts with ripe red fruit, plum skins and red flowers in the background. It’s full-bodied with firm, chalky tannins and steady acidity to give it freshness. A little bit of toasted oak at the end. Lengthy and spiced with a crunchy finish. Better after 2025.
