Profile

A distinct Italian twist on the famed McLaren Vale GSM blends, Mitolo employs sagrantino in place of mourvèdre.

A seamless connection between the three varieties. Medium bodied with bright cherry, raspberry, spiced plum, blackberry and mulberry all present. Succulent acidity brings a pleasing tartness, balanced by a silky textured and opulent mid palate, finishing long with fine grained gravelly tannins.

Critic awards

The seventh son of the seventh son, from Middle Eastern lore: the chosen one. The 2020 7th Son Grenache Shiraz Sagrantino is a blend of 60% Grenache, 34% Shiraz and 6% Sagrantino (it adds gravitas and intensity to the wine). This is generous and fleshy. This 2020 has Grenache from Sadler's Hill and Blewitt Springs. The fruit was picked, fermented and matured separately. No new oak in Grenache or Sagrantino, the Shiraz has a small proportion of new oak. The wine is lush, plush and pretty, with a framework of savory aniseed tannin.

Medium deep crimson. Chinotto/cola, raspberry pastille aromas with herb garden star anise notes. Well-concentrated raspberry, cola flavours, grippy fine tannins, attractive mid-palate density and long juicy acidity. Finishes crunchy with persistent aniseed complexity.

Deep ruby red and fragrant with red fruits and violets jumping from the glass. Palate shows a deep and more savoury tone, dark berry fruit sits underneath smoked meats and ironstone characters all bound with firm gravelly tannins. Good length and bone dry to the finish. Time and food will add further to the experience.
